Which Mobility Scooter is Best for Senior Citizens?

If you’re in the market for a new mobility scooter, you may be wondering which is the best mobility scooter for seniors. The best mobility scooter for you will depend on your needs, but a few features stand out: safety, range, and usability.

Where will you be using your mobility scooter the most, and what activities are you hoping to complete in your scooter? Your needs may differ if you’re simply going grocery shopping vs wanting to ride through the park on longer jaunts. Check out our list below, and find the best mobility scooter.

Best For Basic Shopping

The EW M-34 from E-Wheels steals the show as the best simple, reliable mobility scooter for basic shopping trips and errands. It features a stable yet narrow design, four wheels (which make it less likely to tip over than a lightweight three-wheel design), and a comfortable, padded seat for riding.

At $2,000, it’s a lower-range investment, which does great in supermarkets, pharmacies, and malls. It can carry up to 300 lbs and has a maximum range of about 10 miles. It features a medium-sized, convenient front basket and comfortable footrests which can double as an extra storage platform if need be. At 92 lbs, it is relatively lightweight and can be disassembled and transported fairly easily, too.

Best for Pretending You’re on a Motorcycle

Seriously, this model fulfills that specification well. It’s insanely rugged, sturdy, well-built, and looks like a four-wheeled moped. We’re talking about the EW-46 by EWheels, and it’s a real beauty. If you’re traveling locally and on sidewalks, this model could even replace a car as a daily driver. At $6,700, this machine is a serious investment, but it can last you for years, as well.

It features side mirrors, a headlamp, a superior suspension system, an extremely stable and rugged build, and can go up to 13 miles per hour. It has a cruising range of up to 35 miles on a single charge, making it ideal for long days out, and rides in the park. It can handle park terrain, too, with dense, tough tires and a chunky frame. Safety features include front and rear electromagnetic brakes and a multiple-lights system to keep you visible and safe. It can hold up to 400 lbs and features a convenient rear-facing carrying basket.

Best Lightweight Foldable

The HandyScoot is a unique, extremely lightweight little scooter that is ideal for air travel and can easily be used by one person. It’s a very basic scooter and is not meant for everyday use. But it is airline compliant and folds into a cool little compact unit. It can also carry a piece of medium-sized luggage in front and has a detachable basket up front, as well.

At just 42 lbs, it’s a lightweight and manageable unit that can go up to 12 miles on a single charge and has an ur. This makes it perfect for airports and train travel. This model may not work well for shopping, as the maximum speed of 9 miles per home is minimal, and there’s no footrest. But if you need a very portable and TSA-compliant ride, this scooter is perfect. At $4,600, it’s a good investment for those who travel often and need extra help with mobility.
