Yellowstone is one of the most beautiful places on earth. Hollywood heartthrob Kevin Costner leads a star-studded cast in this Paramount Network show filled with gripping drama, complicated romances, and star-studded performances. A jaw-dropping setting would definitely entice people if the ongoing conflict and excellent acting weren’t enough.
Featuring sprawling fields, looming mountains, and the ranch’s signature cabins, the Dutton Ranch’s landscape was the perfect backdrop for the intense western series. You might be wondering: Where is Yellowstone filmed, and does it really look that way? That’s for sure! Yellowstone’s real-life ranch is all you need to know.
Where is Yellowstone filmed?
There are many episodes of Yellowstone that feature breathtaking views of nature, all of which are 100% authentic. As part of Utah’s film incentive program, 70-75% of the first three seasons of the series were filmed in more than 20 locations across the state.
Is the Dutton Ranch real?
Cast members of The Yellowstone spend most of their time in Montana filming on a real ranch in the state that the show is based upon. Located near Darby, Montana, Chief Joseph Ranch is home to the Dutton family’s 5,000-square-foot log cabin. It is a working cattle ranch and family home that looks just like on TV-and it is absolutely stunning.
Visitors can rent some of the cabins on the property when Yellowstone is not filming on the 2,500-acre ranch. There are many activities guests can enjoy in the area, including fishing, horseback riding, and hiking.
Most of season 4 was filmed in Montana.
While season 4 brought a lot of new drama, it probably didn’t seem like there was much change in scenery. Montana was almost exclusively used as a filming location for the upcoming season, according to The Salt Lake Tribune. Utah’s “limited tax incentive program won’t provide with the same rebates” they previously received, which led to the show’s decision to stop production.
Yellowstone will be more authentic than ever before, and even more beautiful, as the majority of the filming is taking place in Montana.
