What is Child Abuse?
Most people think of child abuse as physical violence against a child, but there are other forms of abuse that can have just as devastating effects. Child abuse can take many different forms, including physical, emotional, and neglect.
Physical abuse is when a parent or caregiver physically hurts a child. This can include hitting, shaking, burning, or any other type of physical force that causes injury to a child.
Emotional abuse is when a parent or caregiver says things to a child that damage their self-esteem or make them feel worthless. This can include name-calling, threats, and constant criticism.
Neglect is when a parent or caregiver fails to provide the basic needs for a child such as food, shelter, clothing, or medical care. This can also include not providing proper supervision or not protecting a child from harm.
